Visiting Orange County

We flew down to Long Beach to visit Jonathan's brother David and his wife Angie this last weekend. We spent Saturday at the beach, but forgot the camera. So you will just have to imagine our drive, with the windows down to Laguna Beach and our lunch out on a cliff overlooking the sparkling ocean.
We spent the next couple hours digesting in the sun on the sand. Then we were overwhelmed by about 20 children and their mothers who all decided that they wanted to be right where David was. Jonathan and I watched in amusement as all the moms sat down within inches of David's chair and then proceeded to have the kind of conversations moms who have two or three children under five have: diapers, food, potty training husband's schedules. He was not as amused as we were!
It was also pretty amazing to see how a little moving water and sand will keep anyone under 8 fascinated for hours on end.

Jonathan and David went golfing on Sunday afternoon. Here they are enjoying each other, at least that's what I assume the tongues and smirky smiles mean.

On Monday, Jonathan and I drove up to Biola to visit my dear friend, Dorothy. She and I have known each other since we lived together in high school, but I haven't seen her since before I married Jonathan. Doro and I went out to lunch and got mostly caught up. It was a real blessing to me.

That night Angie had to work late, so the three of us headed out for Malaysian food. It was really good!

It was a great trip, and I'm sad to have left the lovely weather behind!

Labor Day Weekend

This labor day was not very laborious for me! I started out my weekend by taking a nap in our sunny back yard, while Jonathan washed dishes. (I lead a rough life, I know!)

Then I moved on to re-planting our hanging basket, which had been overtaken with vines.

We were also house and dog-sitting for the family I nanny for. So we took Stella, the most obedient dog in the world, for a walk to the park.

She chased her ball and rolled in the grass until she was so thoroughly exhausted that Jonathan had to convince her to keep up with us on the way home. She was pretty happy about it though!

Then we led worship at church on Sunday and went out to lunch with friends. That afternoon we took more naps to get us ready for.....
...The EVERGREEN STATE FAIR!!!

We saw piglets that were two hours old, and an amazing array of bunnies. But best of all, was the Logging Competition!

And most exciting of all, pole climbing! I really did think that they were going to die in front of our eyes, especially when they started coming down so fast that it looked like they were falling.

Ahhhh, there's nothing so fair as Fair food for fare!

What's bigger, my teeth or the Ferris Wheel cars? (This is a lovely example of a "Marzinke picture"...taken entirely without my knowledge!)

After the Ferris Wheel we needed some refreshment to help us on our way home!

Mmmmm!
