Charlie's First Birthday

This little boy turned one at 7:14am this morning.

Jonathan and I took some time last night to decorate his cake

and cupcakes

and then as we were falling asleep, we talked through what we could remember of being in labor with Charlie. It was not an easy 30 hours.....but the most amazing part came right at the end when our doctor tricked me into delivering him myself. I reached down to touch Charlie on his way out, and our doctor said "No, two hands, two hands" Suddenly I was holding Charlie under the arms while he was still half-way out. I wondered for a split-second if it was OK for me to pull him out the rest of the way and then there he was on my chest, screaming his head off. I just kept saying "Hi!, Hi, Hi". And then it occurred to me that we didn't know if it was a boy or a girl, so we went digging through the blankets and lo and behold he was Charlie!

Our little Charlie woke up early this morning and opened his valentine cards .

Then we put up balloons and re-arranged the living room to make more space for the guests coming that afternoon.

After church, he helped us set up some party food....

And then around 4pm the party guests started coming.

There were several little ones and they all enjoyed Charlie's toys.

So did some older ones!

Then it was time for CAKE! We set Charlie up at the 'head' of the living room.

And then we brought out the cake.

He did eventually figure out what to do with the cake!

Some special presents, and our friends started going home!

We are so glad to have this busy toddler changing our lives!

Happy Birthday Charlie! I love the little "haaahhhh" of happiness he made as he discovered how yummy it is. Susanna makes that sound whenever something happens that she finds especially interesting.

Wish we could have been there, too. What fun pictures! It made me think of how you would help, Keren, seeing Charlie help! And the cake was precious!
