Charlie babbles all day long. Occasionally we actually understand what he is saying. He's quite willing to try new words that we ask him to repeat, but they mostly come out as variations of "da-da." In fact, of the words he knows, most just barely reflect the proper sounds. Charlie has been very creative in amassing the information at his ear tips and seems very determined to create his own version of English. It is quite amusing to listen to him. I thought I'd share a few of the particulars...
1. "boo"-- food
2. "caw" --means cloth (his special lovey cloths that he sleeps with)
3. "deh-da"--thank you
4. "douvf" (said with emphasis, like a swear word, and with puckered lips)--means truck or bus and is usually the cause of great spittle flying excitement.
5. "gangk"--means blanket
6. "gloo"(said all guttural and making the "l" sound by flipping the tongue past his lips)--means balloon
7. "hi" --means hi, but he says it the way a southern woman would greet you, all singsong, excited and drawn out.
8. "mah-mah"--amen
9. "piece" --means tape or raisin. (from a piece of tape, but why this also is the word for raisin completely baffles us!)
10. "psh"(this word is all consonants...I mean who needs vowels anyway, right?) --means push, and apparently you are to continue repeating the noise over and over until all pushing is complete.
11. "ta-tuh" (said in a high, whisper voice)--means tweet tweet, or bird. Imagine a short little guy wobbling over the grass after a robin, whisper-squeaking "ta-tuh" and you've got yourself a Charlie!
12. "tch-ch-ch"--means helicopter, he got this from Jonathan making the sound effects during bath time
13. "tee" -- trash
14. "tu-tu" --nursing, again I have NO idea how this came about!
And that's the entire Charlish lexicon for now!
